One of the notable improvements in Build 23481 is the modernization of Windows Ink. Users can now enable inking directly onto edit fields, allowing them to use their pen and handwrite anywhere they can type on their Windows device. The accuracy of the recognition technology has been enhanced, and a scratch out gesture has been introduced for making edits. While these new Windows Ink improvements currently support English (U.S.) only, broader language support is expected in the future. To manage this new experience, users can navigate to Settings > Bluetooth and devices > Pen and Windows Ink under "Shell Handwriting."

A new widget called "Focus Session" has been introduced as part of the Clock app update. This widget allows users to start and stop focus sessions quickly on their Windows device. While the rollout of this widget is still in progress and not yet available to all Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels, Microsoft plans to monitor feedback and make further improvements before making it widely accessible.

Another change in this build focuses on File Explorer's Folder Options. In an effort to streamline the number of settings, several old settings under Folder Options in File Explorer have been removed. These legacy settings, which have been around for a long time and are not commonly used by Windows 11 users, will no longer appear in the Folder Options menu. However, it's worth noting that these settings can still be accessed via registry keys for advanced users who require them.

Changes and Bug Fixes

Build 23481 also brings some changes and improvements to the taskbar, system tray, File Explorer, and voice access. Notably, the "Never combined mode," which enables users to see each window of their applications on the taskbar individually, is now available to all Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. Additionally, the ability to tear out and merge tabs in File Explorer is now accessible to all Dev Channel Insiders. The new text authoring experiences in voice access have also been made available to all Dev Channel users.

As for bug fixes, this build addresses various issues reported by Insiders. Some of the fixes include resolving authentication errors in File Explorer Home, fixing blurry icons in the File Explorer context menu, and improving the behavior of the search icon within the tab in File Explorer. The developers have also focused on improving thumbnail loading performance in Gallery and addressing memory usage issues in large collections.
